November 26 | The European Central Bank and its Independence
The global policy area at the Humphrey Institute will co-sponsor a lecture with Professor Kurt Hübner about The European Central Bank and its Independence from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 26, in room 710 in the Social Sciences Building. Hübner is director of the Institute for European Studies at the University of British Columbia. Central to his research are topics of global and European currency regimes, international regimes of foreign direct investment, and the relations between innovation and sustainability. His latest research focuses on the economic and socio-political foundations of technical innovations in a transatlantic perspective. November 28 | Women and Politics Reading Group
In The
Solitude of Self: Thinking About Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Farrar,
Straus, and Giroux, 2005), Vivian Gornick writes about Stanton's contributions
to the American feminist movement as the founder and leader of the National
Women Suffrage Association. The Women
and Politics Reading Group will discuss Gornick's book at 5 p.m. on
Wednesday, November 28, in Freeman Commons (205 HHH). All are invited to attend.
The reading group is sponsored by the Center
on Women and Public Policy.
December 5 | Women's Human Rights Film Series
The Womens Human Rights Film Series will feature Journey to Safety, an artistic portrayal of the challenges facing battered immigrant and refugee women when negotiating legal, medical, and government systems. The film begins at 5 p.m. on December 5 in the Humphrey Forum.
December 6 | Moral Dilemmas of Interventions for Emergency Relief
Dr. James Orbinski will talk about Moral Dilemmas of Interventions for Emergency Relief at 4 p.m. on December 6 in Cowles Auditorium as part of the Sawyer Seminar.
