Job description:

The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs has an opening for a Student West Side After School Youth Work Leader in the Center for Democracy and Citizenship.

This is a part-time off-campus fall term position for an undergraduate student.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute ranks among the top 15 professional schools of public affairs at public universities in the country; our program concentration in nonprofit management ranks fifth in the nation.

The Institute is widely recognized for its role in examining public issues and shaping public policy at the local, state, national, and international levels, and for providing leadership and management expertise to public and nonprofit organizations.

Employment responsibilities:

This position is located off campus. The 21st Century Initiative is a new collaborative project on the West Side of St. Paul to engage youth who go to middle school or high school on the West Side in after school programming. The project involves homework help, technology projects, art projects, greenhouse/health programming, etc. The position overview is as follows:

-50% Act as a group leader for defined after-school youth programming 2 nights/week
-20% Assist getting feedback from youth to develop new programming
-10% Plan and lead field trips, special activities, etc.
-10% Connect youth to University of MN/higher education in general
-10% Other activities as assigned

Essential qualifications:

-Work Study award available
-Interest in education, out-of-school time theory and practice
-Some formal or informal experience working with middle school or high school aged youth
-Interest in being a mentor to youth

Preferred qualifications:

-Experience leading youth programming
-Desire to use skills to create new, engaging after-school programming
-Bilingual/ experience with diverse communities
-Some knowledge of St. Paul and its neighborhoods

Appointment details:

Part-time, $9.00 per hour starting hourly rate DOQ.
