The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs has an opening for a Student Office Assistant in the State and Local Policy Program.
This is a part-time on-campus summer term position for an undergraduate student.
The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute ranks among the top 15 professional schools of public affairs at public universities in the country; our program concentration in nonprofit management ranks fifth in the nation.
The Institute is widely recognized for its role in examining public issues and shaping public policy at the local, state, national, and international levels, and for providing leadership and management expertise to public and nonprofit organizations.
The State and Local Policy Program (SLPP) has been active in research and outreach since 1991 as part of the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. Our work focuses primarily in the areas of transportation technology and policy and economic development and knowledge clusters.
Employment responsibilities:
The person in this position will work with the Executive Administrative Specialist to the State and Local Policy Program in the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, to support the work of the Program. Duties will include filing and maintaining filing system, archiving materials, photocopying, assembling materials, data entry.
Office of Senior Fellow (room 157 Humphrey Center) to be reorganized and new system of organization put in place for files: -Research -Teaching -Subject/Topic-based files -Project-based files ALL done on annual-based system
Documentation of all State and Local Policy Program publications. Assist Executive Administrative Specialist with data entry of titles and authors, filing of each publication, and archiving of some selected publications, other files and SLPP materials.
Essential qualifications:
Must have Work-Study Funds. 1. At least one year previous office experience. 2. Keyboarding ability of 50 wpm and computer skills. 3. Possess basic skills in alphabetizing, spelling, grammar and punctuation. 4. Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Preferred qualifications:
1. Good organizational and prioritization skills. 2. Attention to detail. 3. Ability to handle multiple tasks, sometimes under tight deadlines. 4. Must be reliable and efficient. 5. Experience in handling confidential information.
Appointment details:
Part-time, $8.50 per hour starting hourly rate.
