Humphrey Fellows come to the University of Minnesota each year through a Fulbright scholarship granted by the U.S. State Department. These Fellows are mid-career professionals from emerging democracies with public policy and human rights expertise. Through the Humphrey Fellowship, these dynamic and influential men and women have the opportunity to spend one year at the University of Minnesota in a non-degree program to develop their leadership potentials and collaborate with their professional American counterparts.
Humphrey Fellows have much to offer the U of MN community: in-depth experience in public policy and international human rights work, diverse cultural backgrounds, and opportunities for American students to participate in cross-cultural and trans-national exchange.
To foster the interaction between Humphrey Fellows and Humphrey Institute students, the International Fellowship Program is launching the MPA Student-Humphrey Fellow Buddy Program. In this Buddy Program, two MPA students (one first year and one returning student) are invited to partner with a new Humphrey Fellow in a low-commitment, yearlong relationship. MPA students in the program are asked to be a cultural and university resource to the Fellow to the best of their ability and include the Fellows in professional and social engagements whenever possible. During the year, participating MPA students will also be invited to join in International Fellowship Program events, including theater outings, policy-related conferences, and field trips to important community non-profits and corporations.
To learn more about this opportunity, please call or email Casie Mazilly Moen, Professional Development Coordinator of the International Fellowship Program at 6-9282 or cmm@umn.edu. Or drop by our offices in Room 55 at the Humphrey Institute.
